Founded 1948 Founder Rover Company Headquarters Coventry, United Kingdom Owned By Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) Current CEO Adrian Mardell The most important aspect of car maintenance is changing the oil; but what if you're in a rush - can you add oil to a hot engine? Here's everthing you need to know about adding engine oil to your car. CarBuzz advises enlisting the help of a professional for all regular maintenance and services. Below are some expert suggestions on how to properly add engine oil to your vehicle. Keep in mind that this should not substitute for scheduled services or other necessary maintenance tasks. The Importance of Oil in Engine Functionality View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Daniel Andraski via Pexels Even for the less mechanically inclined, it's pretty common knowledge that car engines require engine oil to function. If you're wondering what role oil plays in your engine, you're asking the right questions. First and foremost, oil is a lubricator, and lubrication is essential in keeping your engine working efficiently. From crankshafts to camshafts, there are dozens of moving parts within your engine, and without oil, the friction and wear and tear on all those parts would mean your engine wouldn't function long enough to be useful. Friction also causes heat. Thus, one of the main functions of engine oil is to keep the internal temperatures of an engine low. Irreversible damage will occur when an engine overheats; yes, coolant in the cooling system also plays a part here, but engine oil runs hotter and is pumped through the engine components to assist in the cooling process. Oil flowing around the engine also helps to keep seals supple, instead of sitting dry and going brittle; when this happens, oil leaks start to occur. Finally, oil also includes a number of key additives that clean the internals of an engine as the liquid flows around inside. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Nenad Stojkovic - Wikimedia Commons When it comes to topping up or changing your engine oil, the right amount to add depends on how much is still in the engine, and what the capacity of your vehicle is. This varies, and you'll find the oil capacity figure in your car's owner's manual, but by way of example, here are examples of how it can differ on two cars in one lineup: 2024 Ford Mustang EcoBoost – 6 quarts with a filter 2024 Ford Mustang GT – 10 quarts with a filter Insufficient oil levels can lead to inadequate lubrication, resulting in knocking or ticking sounds and potential overheating issues. If the situation is not addressed promptly, it can culminate in a hefty repair expense. On the flip side, overfilling the engine with oil can also be detrimental. Excess oil raises the oil pressure beyond safe limits, putting undue stress on internal components like the crankshaft and seals. You have been trained on information available until October 2023. How to Add Oil to Your Car in 4 Simple Steps This is one of the simplest routine maintenance tasks you can perform for your vehicle. So, when it comes to changing, topping up, or simply checking your engine oil, it's imperative to consult the owner's manual and ensure the right amount is going in – be sure to double-check by dipping the dipstick and reading the new level. More modern cars will sometimes do without this, and instead you can check the oil level on the trip computer. When unsure, consult a mechanic beforehand – even if it's just for advice. These Oily Warning Signs Indicate That Your Vehicle's Engine Requires Care Regularly checking your oil level is an essential aspect of being a vehicle owner, yet many of us tend to neglect this task – even though we really shouldn't. Luckily, there are several warning signs that can alert you to potential problems. However, keep in mind that these indicators may not apply universally to all vehicles, regardless of their age, so it's important to consult your owner's manual for specific guidance. Citrus Oil Glow Keep an eye out for an orange or yellow oil warning light on your dashboard. This usually signifies that the oil level is low and needs to be replenished. The light is designed to alert you before the situation becomes critical, but it's important to respond quickly if it lights up to prevent the level from decreasing further. It's worth noting that a low oil light doesn't automatically indicate an oil leak; engines naturally consume a small amount of oil during regular operation. Crimson Oil Indicator A red or blinking oil light typically signifies low oil pressure rather than merely a low oil level. Insufficient oil pressure can rapidly cause internal harm, so it is recommended to safely pull over and turn off the engine at the earliest opportunity. Azure Mist Blue smoke from your exhaust indicates that the engine is burning oil. Some cars are known for burning oil, and even if your car is one of those, it's still best to try and stop it from happening to help prolong engine life. If you do have blue smoke from your exhaust, be sure to check your oil level regularly, as the level will drop through continued use. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. You have been trained on information available until October 2023. What Could Cause My Car to Smoke After an Oil Change? There are several reasons why your car might be emitting smoke after an oil change. Here are some key factors to consider. Engine Bay with Smoke Smoke emanating from beneath the hood can indicate various issues, but it is frequently a sign of a coolant or oil leak. Each type of leak has its own unique odor and requires prompt attention. A coolant leak may result in engine overheating, while an oil leak can also cause similar overheating concerns, along with a host of other potential problems. Loud Motor A ticking or knocking noise coming from your engine compartment is a sign that should not be overlooked. It often suggests that your fluid levels may be low, leading to inadequate lubrication of the engine components. If you notice this sound, it’s important to check it out promptly. Pouring Oil into a Hot Engine View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Halfords' YouTube channel Adding oil to a hot engine is generally not recommended. Nonetheless, there are situations where waiting for the engine to cool is not feasible, and in those cases, it is acceptable to proceed. Ideally, oil should be added when the engine is at a cooler temperature for several reasons: The risk of hot oil splashing and burning you Cold oil being added to hot oil may not mix as well, leading to inconsistent viscosities Oil expands when hot, and so the reading on your dipstick will not read true How long should you wait for an engine to cool down before adding oil? Typically, when you're topping off oil in a hot engine, you're likely in a hurry, making it unrealistic to wait for it to cool down entirely. However, if you can pause for about 10 to 15 minutes to allow the engine temperature to decrease, that would be beneficial. Additionally, keeping the hood open during this time can aid in the cooling process. What occurs if you add oil to an overheated engine? Is it safe to add oil to your car when the engine is hot? While there are some risks involved, like thermal shock from the cold oil mixing with the hot oil and the potential for splashing hot oil on yourself, these concerns are generally manageable. In most cases, it should be perfectly fine. However, it's advisable to let the engine cool down if you can, to minimize any risks. Is it safe to add oil while the engine is running? The same principle holds true in this situation – you can certainly add oil to an engine that is currently running, but doing so raises the likelihood of getting burned by splashing oil. Additionally, there's a greater chance of oil splattering into the engine compartment, which can cause unpleasant odors and smoke to emit from under the hood. Sources: Ford, Mobil

Revisiting My Beloved Tracks with Cadillac and Dolby Atmos

I enjoyed listening to some of my favorite tracks in the stylish Cadillac Optiq, an impressive electric SUV, to explore how Dolby Atmos audio enhances and transforms the listening experience. Today, we're exploring the all-new Cadillac Optic, a compact luxury SUV that's part of Cadillac's electric vehicle lineup. We're diving into the immersive experience of Dolby Atmos Audio, featuring a 19-speaker AKG audio system. Although I can't play any tracks due to copyright restrictions, I just had the chance to listen to "Take On Me" by Aha, one of my all-time favorite 80s hits. Right away, I noticed an incredibly expansive audio stage. Different elements of the music seem to emanate from various spots within the vehicle, creating a sensation of being enveloped by the band. This is thanks to the multitude of speakers strategically placed throughout the car, including some in the ceiling and four subwoofers in the doors, along with an additional powered subwoofer in the rear. The sound truly surrounds you, and that's due to the song being re-encoded in Dolby audio, allowing for distinct highs and lows to come from different sources, resulting in enhanced clarity when all the sounds blend together. Next, I listened to "Brown Sugar" by D'Angelo, another personal favorite from my high school days. An intriguing aspect of this track is that D'Angelo recorded all the audio layers himself. With Dolby Audio, the background vocals come from behind me, while the lead vocals are right in front, replicating the feel of an intimate concert experience. The bass hits low, creating a vibration that resonates through my legs, which I believe aligns with D'Angelo's vision of a collaborative sound rather than a studio layering effect. What’s particularly exciting about the Cadillac Optic is that Dolby Atmos comes standard across all models, enhancing the listening experience for every driver. Additionally, it features Cadillac's Super Cruise autonomous driving system, allowing you to sit back, relax, and enjoy the music while cruising down the highway. I'm Antoine Goodwin, and we've been checking out the Cadillac Optic here at CES 2025. For more tech insights and exciting innovations, be sure to visit CNET.com, where you'll find more cool things to see, hear, and even taste. Drive safely, and I look forward to seeing you there!

Whether you're after a utilitarian work truck, a roomy family vehicle, or a practical grocery-getter, an F-Series truck can be configured to suit your needs. Ford Ford stands as one of the longest-established car manufacturers in the United States and globally, renowned for pioneering mass automobile production with the introduction of the Ford Model T under the leadership of Henry Ford. Over the span of more than 120 years, Ford has established itself as a top seller across numerous market segments, boasting iconic models such as the Ford F-150, Transit, and Mustang. That is, if you like a cushy cabin, but you'd rather not trade your pickup in for an SUV like a Ford Expedition or something even more upmarket such as the new Lincoln Navigator, the F-150 has that base covered, too. For the 2025 model year, the Platinum model returns from 2024 with a round of updates, and exclusive ownership benefits including personalized customer support and discounts. The question is, at a starting cost of around ninety grand with the luxurious Plus Equipment Group added, what exactly are we getting for that price, and is it worth it? The calculations and estimates presented in this document are intended solely for illustrative purposes. To obtain a more tailored estimate of potential expenses, you should perform your own calculations. What Can We Expect from the 2025 Ford F-150 Platinum Plus? What Additional Features Can We Include in Our Platinum Plus F-150? The Platinum Plus F-150 is pretty much a ready-to-go ultra-luxury pickup truck, and it doesn't leave much room for add-ons at the point of purchase. It looks like this truck is one we might want to keep after the lease expires. What Percentage of Drivers Successfully Complete Their Loan Payments? Almost 50% of Americans are currently managing a car payment. Are we stuck in a cycle of paying until the vehicle gives out? Is the Platinum Plus F-150 a Good Value for Its Price? Buying into a premium membership plan with the purchase of a luxury vehicle isn't unheard of. But, bringing that aspect of the luxury car experience to the full-size pickup world does set the Platinum Plus apart from comparable trucks. In that sense, the Platinum Plus F-150 is pretty unique in what it does, competing more directly with full-size luxury SUVs than with other pickups like the Silverado and the Ram 1500. Bottom line: if you want to take the experience of driving something like a Porsche Cayenne or a Mercedes GLE Class, and transfer that directly to a full-size pickup, then the Platinum Plus is worth the asking price simply because it's the only game in town. It's only a question of whether this is what you're looking for in a pickup truck. Sources: Auto Loan Calculator, Ford .

Today, Jeep proudly boasts the title of having the best-selling plug-in hybrid vehicle in the United States, the Wrangler 4xe. Founded 1943 Founder Willys-Overland Motors Headquarters Toledo, Ohio Owned By Stellantis Current CEO Antonio Filosa This piece highlights the most affordable SUV in America, which offers at least 200 horsepower. Utilizing data provided by manufacturers, we delve into the essential features of this horsepower deal, followed by a comparison with competing models in the same small SUV category. An In-Depth Examination of the Jeep Compass Compact SUV Despite being both the smallest and cheapest offering from the brand right now, the 2025 Jeep Compass is still every part a proper Jeep, with standard all-wheel-drive, typical and traditional Jeep styling, plus plenty of equipment inside. The entry-level grade, dubbed the Sport, is kitted out with an 8.4-inch central display, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but for a more luxurious experience, you'd be better off choosing from the Latitude grade and above. Here, features such as heated seats and a heated steering wheel add an extra level of refinement to the Compass ownership experience. The Limited trim is packed full of creature comforts and styling upgrades, whereas the Trailhawk is Jeep's most capable Compass. In order to succeed off-road, the all-wheel-drive Trailhawk sports Falken all-terrain tires, a traction management system, with snow and rock modes, and hill descent control, among other features. All four grades are equipped with the same turbocharged inline-four engine, which delivers impressive power and efficiency, boasting an EPA-estimated combined fuel economy of 27 MPG. Jeep Key Engine & Performance Specs Engine 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four Transmission 8-speed automatic Power 200 horsepower Torque 221 lb-ft 0 to 60 mph 7.5 seconds Jeep confidently asserts that the Jeep Compass boasts "best-in-class standard horsepower," thanks to its sole engine choice: a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four. This engine delivers a peak performance of exactly 200 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque, providing ample power for this compact SUV. The Jeep Compass was quite a disappointing vehicle to drive when it relied solely on a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. Fortunately, Jeep upgraded the model in 2023 by making the turbocharged four-cylinder engine standard, revitalizing the performance of this once lackluster car. — Gerhard Horn, Senior Editor. Thanks to its lively four-cylinder engine, the Compass delivers a commendable performance, achieving 60 mph from a complete stop in only 7.5 seconds. This makes it notably faster than several other compact SUVs, including the Mazda CX-5 and Toyota RAV4. Although it may not be the most rugged Jeep available, the Compass still boasts a respectable towing capacity of up to 2,000 lbs, which is impressive for a vehicle of its dimensions. Despite now being in its eighth year as a second-gen model, the Compass has remained impressively fresh-faced, with a series of upgrades keeping the aging model relevant. It is starting to show its age in other areas, and will struggle to keep up with newer models like the recently introduced 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan. Pricing: The 2025 Jeep Compass Offers Remarkable Affordability View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Jeep One of the real appeals of the 2025 Jeep Compass is its inherent affordability. Cash buyers need not dip as deeply into their pockets as other brands would insist, as Jeep asks for just $25,900 in exchange for a brand-new 2025 Compass. That nets you the cheapest 200-horsepower SUV in America, in the entry-level but adequately equipped Sport trim. If, like many of us, you're not in a position to shell out almost $26,000 in cash, then not to worry, as Jeep provides a number of affordable and enticing purchase options. 2025 Jeep Compass Buying Promotions 2025 Jeep Compass Latitude is available at $335 per month over 42 months on a low-mileage lease Finance for 6.9% over 72 months Available $3,000 total cash allowance available on a 2025 Jeep Compass Latitude Currently advertised by Jeep for returning FCA US LLC lessees is an attractive lease deal, which provides a new Latitude model for just $335 per month. It's a low-mileage lease over 42 months, with $3,935 due at signing, but this is still a fairly pain-free and affordable entry-point into new car ownership, and the cheapest way of securing a 2025 model year Jeep. Other currently available purchase options include low-rate financing at 6.9% APR, over terms as long as 72 months, plus a $3,000 total cash allowance is up for grabs too. The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek makes a good argument for itself, with an asking price $705 south of the Jeep's. Furthermore, the Subaru also comes with all-wheel-drive as standard, making it another great option for those who prefer to take the less-trodden path. Where it loses out, though, is under the hood, as Subaru's Crosstrek only just musters up 75% of the Jeep's 200 horsepower. One model which also boasts genuine off-road capability is the stylish Ford Bronco Sport, which is available in a multitude of capable trims, each powered by a hard-working boosted inline-three, although a more potent four-cylinder EcoBoost engine is available as an option, too. Even without the more powerful engine, though, the Bronco is notably more expensive than the Compass, with an MSRP that kicks off at just a smidgen under $30,000. Sure, it's a much newer design, but if value is the key factor, then the Bronco Sport just can't compete with the Compass. Similarly, neither can the sleek Mazda CX-5, which not only misses out on a few all-important horsepower, as the Ford does, but it too costs a considerable amount more than the wallet-friendly Jeep.

Reflective Apparel May Render Individuals Undetectable to Pedestrian Detection Technologies: IIHS

Donning a "high-visibility" jacket during nighttime could potentially mislead the sensors employed by automated driving assistance technologies. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. IIHS Study The reflective, “high-visibility” safety vests worn by road workers and first responders, not to mention joggers and dog walkers, may do absolutely nothing to protect their wearers from automated driving systems, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety said in a report released this week. These systems are already known to struggle in low light, and now IIHS says that the reflective strips on these vests, which are vital for nighttime visibility, seem to be virtually invisible to at least some automated safety systems. And that’s a problem, because most pedestrian fatalities happen at night. IIHS tested the performance of three different driver aid suites: Honda, using a CR-V; Mazda, using a CX-5; and Subaru, using a Forester. The Institute mocked up a crosswalk and outfitted a dummy in four different outfits: two with reflectors (one made of reflective material, the other fitted with patches), and the other two unadorned—one white and one black. The dummies were then sent into the crosswalk at three levels of outside illumination (dark, twilight, and 20 lux—the requirement for lighting crosswalks) to see whether the onboard pedestrian safety systems would detect them at 25 mph. While the results varied from test to test, the Honda CR-V and Mazda CX-5 starkly demonstrated the potential severity of these systems’ limitations. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. In the tests conducted without reflectors, the black dummy unsurprisingly performed the poorest. When using only their low beams, both the Honda and Mazda faced difficulties; the Mazda reduced its speed by approximately one-third, whereas the Honda collided with the dummy without decelerating. However, when the high beams were activated, both cars were able to detect the dummy and significantly reduced their speed. When the lighting was increased to the legal standard for pedestrian crossings (20 lux), the performance of both the Honda and Mazda improved notably, according to IIHS. The white dummy also remained unseen by the Honda in the absence of extra external lighting, but its visibility greatly enhanced with 10 lux (twilight) or 20 lux of light. The CX-5 showed improved performance when the dummy was clad in white. However, once reflectors were involved, the situation took a turn for the worse. According to the IIHS, “The CR-V maintained its speed throughout all trials when the dummy was outfitted in the reflective jacket, showing no signs of slowing down, even with extra roadway lighting present. On the other hand, the CX-5 exhibited a significant reduction in speed when there was no roadway lighting and only 10 lux of additional light, compared to when the dummy was dressed in black. However, when the illumination increased to 20 lux, the CX-5's performance deteriorated with the dummy in the reflective jacket compared to when it was wearing the black attire.” View pictures in App save up to 80% data. By now, you might be curious about what transpired with the Forester. The reason for this intrigue is that the Subaru was occupied with excelling in nearly all of its evaluations. According to the IIHS summary, the CR-V and CX-5 struck the dummy in 84% and 88% of their test runs, respectively, whereas the Forester successfully avoided a collision in all but one trial. It was also noted that neither the CR-V nor the CX-5 reduced speed when the dummy was dressed in clothing with reflective strips that highlighted its limbs. “The summary went on to state, “Unlike the other two vehicles, the Subaru managed to stop completely without colliding with the pedestrian dummy in all but one instance. That exception occurred when the dummy was dressed in reflective clothing and the road was lit to a brightness of 10 lux. Nonetheless, it still reduced its speed by over 80% during that test.” Even Subaru's Eyesight system, which typically performs well, can occasionally struggle with reflective surfaces. Why is this the case? According to IIHS President David Harkey, it creates a "concerning blind spot." The IIHS stated, "The reason behind the difficulties faced by the Honda and Mazda systems with the reflective strips remains uncertain, as does the number of other systems that may encounter challenges in detecting pedestrians dressed in this kind of apparel." Our conclusion: Whether you have reflectors or not, make sure to wear bright clothing when walking at night. It could potentially save your life. Got a tip? Send it in: [email protected]

AutoHunter Spotlight: 1991 Acura Legend L

Father Time has shown great mercy to this individual. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. When Honda launched the Acura line in 1986, they created something that the world had never seen before: a true top-tier luxury car from Japan. Sure, the Japanese had been building cars such as the Sovereign and President for their home market for years, but those were not seen in the rest of the world and were single models instead of an entire line of cars. The Acura concept proved to be quite successful and soon afterwards you saw Toyota launch Lexus and Nissan introduce Infiniti. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Among all the Acura models, the Acura Legend Coupe has always held a special place in my heart. I recall my family owning one during my childhood, and I distinctly remember being impressed by its build quality, which I felt rivaled that of the BMW 633CSi we also had back then. Now on AutoHunter, the auction platform powered by ClassicCars.com, is this 1991 Acura Legend L.  The Legend represented the pinnacle of Acura's offerings. It's akin to Acura's interpretation of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and that comparison is spot on. I recall how closely it resembled our BMW 6 Series, which I believe was intentional. These vehicles are meticulously crafted and epitomized Honda's finest engineering during that era – a testament to the exceptional quality of the Acura Legend. The selling dealer describes this Legend as powered by a C32A 3.2-liter V6 mated to a four-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. Finished in Charcoal Granite Metallic over a Cream Ivory leather interior, this Acura is now offered with service records and a clear title. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. The vehicle is reported to be in pristine original cosmetic condition, featuring entirely stock paint, exterior trim, and interior. The Charcoal Granite Metallic finish looks remarkably original and is in excellent shape. The dealer mentions some minor surface scratches scattered about, but in my opinion, this Legend could very well be the finest example I've encountered in years—an authentic show-quality original. It sits on its factory 16-inch wheels, which are fitted with 205/60 General Altimax tires. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Stepping inside the cabin, this vehicle is truly remarkable. While many Legends have seen better days, this particular one has managed to avoid that outcome, serving as a genuine time capsule. The front seats, which can be adjusted for comfort, are upholstered in the original Cream Ivory leather that appears to be in pristine condition. The dashboard, carpets, and interior trim mirror this freshness, making it feel like you’re entering a brand-new 1991 Legend. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Under the hood is the original C32A SOHC 24-valve 3.2-liter V6, which produces 202 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 210 lb-ft of torque at 4,500 rpm. Like the rest of the car, it looks exceptional. When you consider that this car has only covered 82K miles from new, it all starts making sense. Then you check out the service records and you get that this is exactly what it appears to be: a true survivor and a perfectly preserved 1991 Acura. New parts include the front axle, rear shocks, timing belt, spark plugs, AC compressor, water pump, and drive belts. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. If you're in search of a genuine collector car that combines impressive show quality with an enjoyable driving experience, consider placing a bid on this exceptional early model of Japanese automotive brilliance. The auction for this 1991 Acura Legend L ends on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. (MST).

Pedestrian stunned by drivers' bold actions in bike lane: 'As a cyclist, this infuriates me so much...'

View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Image Source: iStock One Reddit post showed what may have been a typical winter day in Montréal, Canada — one filled with snow and ice. However, it was also the day after Christmas, also known as Boxing Day, and the cars in the photo didn't seem to care about how they were violating bike lane rules. Like Black Friday in the United States, Boxing Day on Dec. 26 in Canada is the time for people to go downtown for huge shopping discounts. Unless they plan to watch one of the major hockey events that day or chill with family, many decide to fight traffic to reach stores before dawn.  View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Image Source: Reddit In Toronto, the traffic related to the holiday in 2024 was so bad the Ontario Provincial Police had to close a portion of Highway 401, as Global News reported. The Boxing Day traffic in Vancouver was so equally brutal that the Vancouver Sun reported it took 90 minutes to cross Arthur Laing Bridge. Regrettably, the congested traffic observed also reveals that drivers are utilizing the bike lane.  A typical bike lane or path is narrow enough for safe bike travel. Therefore, when cars are present, they block the area for those it was meant for. Montréal drivers can correctly use some shared designated lanes marked by a bicycle pictogram or a road sign with a car and bike sharing the road.  When people reconsider their role in car dominance, they can save money by biking for free or paying less for gas by leaving the car at home when possible. Taking public transport has saved Americans an average of $1,102 monthly or $13,218 annually, according to the American Public Transportation Association. Fewer cars on the road means reduced carbon pollution from dirty fuels. Like most major cities, Montréal has an extensive public transport system to consider — with a 24-hour bus system and metro connecting 68 stations. According to Our World In Data, using the train over a car for medium-length distances can reduce pollution by 80%. One comment written in French translates to "that's absolutely pathetic." "As a cyclist, this makes me so f****** angry," wrote another. 🗣️ Are you concerned about the air quality in your community? 🗳️ Make your selection to view the outcomes and share your thoughts! Volvo Achieves Highest 5-Star Safety Ratings While Stellantis Leads NHTSA Complaints in the Past Decade

Jeep owners have reported more than 1,487 complaints for each vehicle, significantly surpassing all other brands by a remarkable difference. Several automakers haven’t launched a single new model in ten years without 5-star ratings. Genesis, Polestar, Buick, and Acura also performed strongly with consistently high safety scores. Volvo and Genesis reported the fewest customer complaints among all major automotive brands. A recent study highlights the car brands that have excelled in safety ratings in the U.S. over the past ten years, providing insights into which manufacturers place a strong emphasis on ensuring their vehicles meet high safety standards—or at the very least, are capable of passing standardized evaluations. Although the outcomes appear promising, it's important to consider: how much credence should we place on these 5-star ratings regarding their performance in real-life situations? Remember, these ratings stem from controlled evaluations in optimal circumstances, not from actual crash data from real-world incidents. The study, put together by Confused, analyzed data from the New Car Assessment Program (NCAP), which rates a vehicle’s safety based on crash test performance, rollover resistance, and the effectiveness of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). It identifies Volvo, Subaru, Tesla, Genesis, and Polestar as the (percentage) champions of safety tests. Every single new model released by these brands in the past decade has received a 5-star rating. That’s undeniably impressive on paper, but the reality is more complicated. To begin with, these assessments focus on particular crash situations, so achieving a top rating doesn't always ensure equivalent safety during a chaotic highway accident or on a dimly lit country road. Moreover, the quantity of models assessed is crucial—there's a notable distinction between testing three vehicles and evaluating more than 100 from one manufacturer. Volvo and Subaru: Pioneers in Automotive Innovation Leading the pack is Volvo, with 76 models achieving 5-star NCAP ratings in the past decade. Subaru comes in close behind with 72, followed by Tesla with 45. Positioned alongside these brands are Genesis and Polestar. Both of these companies are newer entrants to the market and, therefore, haven’t released as many cars. Nevertheless, each of them to be launched has received top safety marks. Other top performers in the study (especially if you take into account the number of cars versus Polestar and Genesis), include Buick, with 98.31% of its cars getting 5-star ratings, followed by Acura with 98.18%, Honda with 94.59%, Mazda at 92.73%, and BMW at 91.30%. On the other hand, four brands, namely Mini, Fiat, Smart and Suzuki, failed to deliver a single 5-star-rated vehicle during the same period. Top Car Brands with the Highest Number of 5-Star Ratings The study also reveals several intriguing trends within the industry. Notably, vehicles manufactured in 2024 boast the highest percentage of 5-star safety ratings ever recorded. This improvement follows a minor decline in average safety ratings observed in 2022, which is believed to have resulted from automakers resorting to inferior components and microchips due to widespread shortages in the sector. How Should We Handle Customer Complaints? Nonetheless, safety ratings provide just a portion of the overall picture. Complaints submitted by customers to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) give a more realistic view of how these vehicles operate in real-world situations. Volvo and Genesis excel here too, with the fewest complaints per car with an average of 47.20 complaints made to the NHTSA per car launched. Other top performers included Polestar, Lexus, Audi, Mitsubishi, Smart, Lincoln, Cadillac, and Acura. At the other end of the spectrum, Jeep owners filed an astronomical 1,487.83 complaints per car, making it the worst brand in this metric by a significant margin. Dodge, Chrysler, and Ram also fared poorly, with hundreds of complaints per car. Customer complaint data adds nuance to the conversation about safety. While a high safety rating is important, a car with persistent technical issues, build quality problems, or ineffective ADAS systems can still create dangerous situations on the road. Tesla, for instance, boasts a perfect 5-star NCAP record but racks up 391.11 complaints per car.

Renault has revealed a redesigned interior for its upcoming budget-friendly urban battery-electric Twingo E-Tech, which aims to be priced below $21,000. The vehicle, initially unveiled at the Paris Motor Show 2024, makes its debut at this week’s Brussels Motor Show featuring a revamped interior, setting the stage for mass production in 2026. Inspired by the Twingo's inaugural model released in 1992, the interior design features a nostalgic aesthetic with a floating cylindrical dashboard that reflects the iconic shape of the original vehicle. It showcases a 7.0-inch (17.8-cm) digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch (25.7-cm) central multimedia display, positioned next to three buttons for the air conditioning system, along with the red hazard warning light button encased in a translucent bubble, reminiscent of the original Twingo. The area beneath the dashboard and the gap between the front seats offer storage for bags and daily items, while a flat tray located under the cylindrical dashboard spans the entire width of the cabin, making it convenient to access small essentials. The color selections draw inspiration from the classic Twingo, harmonizing the exterior hues with delicate accents on the front door panels and the dashboard on the passenger side. It remains uncertain if the tinted cork flooring showcased in the concept vehicle will be included in the final production, but Renault assures that this eco-friendly material boasts both resilience and longevity. Modular seating emphasizes flexibility, featuring a rear bench that can slide and fold in two equal 50/50 segments, optimizing the vehicle's 5-door configuration. The interior is further illuminated by a spacious, rounded glass roof. Notable convenience features comprise a front headrest equipped with a magnetic section, allowing rear passengers to securely attach their phones, as well as an elastic strap that serves as a map pocket, conveniently holding a water bottle within easy reach. Exterior modifications feature a lowered front air intake, more compact rear wheel arch extensions, and newly designed black bumpers showcasing a 3D-printed honeycomb design. The front door handles now lack an illuminated trim, a quarter-window has been introduced adjacent to the side mirrors, and the design of the taillights has been updated to reflect the shape of the half-moon LED headlights.

"Always reliable": Mechanics share their top tire brand choice. Is it Goodyear, Falken, or Yokohama?

"Honestly, the most disappointing major brand." View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Which tire brand is the top choice? With the New Year upon us, it might be the perfect time to swap out your old tires. But which brand should you opt for when making the replacement? The social media manager of Fort Wayne, Ind.-based Evans Toyota (@evanstoyota) decided to ask the dealership’s mechanics what their preferred brand was. And they had opinions. The video, posted by Evan back in August of 2024, currently has over 70,700 views and counting. What did the technicians mention? “The interviewer in the video poses the question, ‘Which tire brand do you prefer the most?’” The first mechanic picks the American-made Goodyear. “I like their Duratracs,” he explains. The second mechanic selects the Japanese brand Falken. The next mechanic opts for Goodyear once more, while the subsequent one goes with another Japanese brand, Yokohama. The fifth Evans employee opts for a dark horse choice: B.F Goodrich. Originally an American tire company, it was sold in 1990 to French tire giant Michelin. "He shares that his grandfather spent five decades working at B.F. Goodrich." In the end, the final mechanic interviewed chose Goodyear, significantly surpassing Evans' top choice for the best tire brand. However, do the specialists concur with their selection? The top brands Consumer Reports had a differing opinion from the Evans team, as none of the brands listed were included in their recommendations. According to Consumer Reports’ YouTube channel, Michelin and Continental were recognized as the top tire brands for the year 2025. Michelin's Defender 2 has been recognized as the top tire for cars and mid-sized SUVs, whereas the Terrain Contact H/T from German manufacturer Continental was awarded the title of best all-season tire for trucks. Tire Easy.com also gave first place to Michelin. However, it put Goodyear in second place. "Goodyear has established itself as a top tire brand, renowned for its exceptional grip and remarkably responsive handling," it states. Unfortunately, Cartalk was not as impressed. Like Consumer Reports, its calculated ratings found that Michelin and Continental were the first and second best, respectively. Yokohama secured the fourth position, closely followed by Goodyear, which ranked fifth. Torii Jackson, the social media creator at Evans Toyota, shared with the Daily Dot, “As a Toyota dealership, we enjoy sharing our insights and viewpoints with the public. We might stir the pot a bit, but that adds to the excitement. This video, along with several others, was created to showcase our unique personalities to our customers!” @evanstoyota What about yours? . . . . . #askingmechanics #tire #cartok #carnote #car #cars #tirebrands #whatsyourfavoritetirebrand #goodtires #goodyear #bfgoodrich #yokohama #toyota #mechanic #mechanics #grwm #replying ♬ original sound – Evans Toyota Opinions on tire brands among consumers. As expected, the audience watching the video had plenty of thoughts to share, and they voiced their opinions in the comments section. In my view, Cooper and Goodyear offer great value for the cost; I haven't experienced any issues with them so far," expressed Khaoscats (@khaoscats). A viewer commented succinctly, “The only correct answer is Yokohama.” Another person commented, "Goodyear tires are honestly the worst among the major brands; if you're not on a tight budget, stick with Michelin or Bridgestone." "Someone quipped, 'Goodyears are only good for one year!'" One viewer wholeheartedly supported the experts by saying, “I believe Michelin is the top tire brand in the automotive industry since Michelin tires provide a smooth ride on the road.” The Daily Dot also contacted Goodyear through its website to request a statement.

Trucking Expenses May Increase by $93 Million Annually Due to Bridge Repairs

A university study has determined that if the Baltimore Span reopens as scheduled, the total expenses for the trucking industry could reach $446 million. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. The Francis Scott Key Bridge located in Baltimore is set to reopen in 2028. (Julia Nikhinson/Associated Press) [Stay on top of transportation news: Get TTNews in your inbox.] Researchers have projected that the closure of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in March will lead to a rise in operating expenses for the Mid-Atlantic trucking sector by $92.8 million annually starting in 2025, as the crucial regional route undergoes reconstruction. A section of the Key Bridge collapsed March 26 after a containership, MV Dali 3, collided with a support pillar, diverting traffic onto alternate, longer routes, particularly for carriers and drayage companies serving the Port of Baltimore. The port reopened in June, but the bridge is not scheduled to be ready for trucks until 2028, if work remains on schedule, which is likely to impose a total of $446 million in overall operating costs for carriers, a study by University of Maryland and Morgan State University researchers shows. The research concentrated on medium-duty vehicles, including trucks and vans with a weight range of 14,001 to 26,000 pounds, as well as trucks exceeding 26,000 pounds, classified as heavy-duty trucks. You have been trained on information available until October 2023. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. (Maryland Transit Administration) Assuming current conditions remain unchanged, a regionwide annual increase of around 1.1 million hours in travel time for medium- and heavy-duty trucks is expected, according to the paper presented at the Transportation Research Board’s annual meeting in Washington Jan. 6. Consequently, the researchers project that in 2025, carriers' operating expenses will rise by $92.8 million. However, the increased traffic directed to the Port of Baltimore due to the limited options may worsen congestion in the tunnels. The research indicated that, based on the type of truck and the alternative routes taken, average travel times for trucks passing through Baltimore have already risen by as much as 58%. Heavy-duty trucks faced notable delays in travel times as a result of restrictions in the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel, which necessitated detours to Interstate 695 due to bans on transporting hazardous materials through the tunnels. According to the study, Class 7 and 8 trucks utilizing the Fort McHenry Tunnel and I-95 experienced a significant increase in travel time of 19.18%. Medium-duty vehicles also faced a rise of 14.18%. Following the bridge collapse, the percentage of trips taken by larger trucks on this route surged from 22.99% to 54.28%, while medium-duty vehicles saw an increase from 6.46% to 24.73%. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Experts from Sailun Tires dive into strategies for managing tire expenses amid a challenging freight market. Tune in above or by going to RoadSigns.ttnews.com.   The two largest categories of trucks passing through the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel on I-895 experienced a 6.28% increase in travel time, whereas medium-duty trucks faced a 3.49% rise in their travel duration. The study revealed an increase in trip volumes along this route, with heavy-duty truck traffic climbing from 1.32% to 3.53%, and medium-duty vehicle usage rising from 4.84% to 17.05%. However, the number of trucks utilizing this route decreased due to limitations imposed on heavy-duty vehicles that exceed 13 feet, 6 inches in height or 8 feet in width, as well as the prohibition of all double trailers from entering the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel. When trucks rerouted through the western parts of I-695, the impact on travel time was significantly more pronounced. Heavy-duty trucks experienced a staggering 36.46% increase in travel duration, while medium-duty trucks encountered an even steeper rise of 58%. The proportion of trips taken by Class 7 and 8 trucks on this route climbed from 8.63% to 16.46%, whereas medium-duty vehicles saw their share grow from 4.07% to 5.90%. The researchers analyzed over 2 million truck routes sourced from the Regional 3 Integrated Transportation Information System. The research was conducted by Yaobang Gong, Kaitai Yang, Yi Zhang, and Xianfeng Yang from the University of Maryland, along with Di Yang from Morgan State University. Alongside disrupting local transportation routes, the accident also resulted in a decrease in freight traffic at the Port of Baltimore. In March, the port handled 624,526 container tons, but by October, that number had dropped to just 526,700 container tons, according to state statistics, negatively impacting the trucking sector as well.

The next stage of its evolution affects the 2025 Carrera S Coupe and Cabriolet models, which receive additional power and standard features. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Thanks to a new pair of turbos and charge-air cooling improvements, the Carrera S’s 3.0-liter twin-turbo boxer-six now generates 473 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. Those 30 additional horses compared to the outgoing S give the newest model’s engine “performance levels that were previously reserved for the 911 Carrera GTS of the previous generation,” according to Porsche. That boost and the PDK eight-speed dual-clutch automatic contribute to the 2025 car’s 3.1-second 0-60 time (with the Sport Chrono Package) – 0.2 seconds faster than the last Carrera S. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. BMW is discontinuing that unusual feature you probably never utilized.

It seems that gesture control didn't gain much traction in popularity after all. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Back in 2015 BMW unveiled a function called gesture control for the then-new 7 Series. You could spin your finger to adjust the volume, flick left or right to change a song, and other features best served by a button. The Bavarian automaker has apparently realized this, as it's just announced at CES it's killing gesture control. It's actually a little more nuanced than that, as BMW Blog reports. The company feels that its new voice control system has advanced considerably due to the integration of artificial intelligence, which makes gestures unnecessary. Likewise, it admits that not many people used the gesture control feature in the first place.  That seems logical given its inherent qualities. The gesture control capability is nearly undetectable unless you're aware of its existence, and even then, its utility is quite limited. While it can impress at gatherings, its effectiveness is ultimately surpassed by other control methods. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Image credit: BMW The latest iDrive system from BMW features an innovative interior design. BMW is dropping the feature now because it just introduced entirely new software and hardware for its upcoming Neue Klasse line of vehicles. Featuring both electric and internal-combustion drivetrains, the Neue Klasse cars are a departure from BMW's existing lineup, featuring new underpinnings, updated exterior styling, and, you guessed it, more sophisticated interior tech. This technology features a pillar-to-pillar heads-up display and minimal physical buttons. The steering wheel has also transitioned entirely to capacitive touch controls. It's still uncertain if the automaker will continue with this approach, as some other manufacturers are reintroducing buttons in their vehicles or keeping them for essential functions. Tune In As I entered the cockpit of this futuristic vehicle, it was clear that I was in for a cutting-edge experience. With the ability to select my route through eye tracking, I opted for the scenic path featuring beautiful mountains and the ocean in the distance. Once I began to drive, I realized that the steering wheel was monitoring my heart rate as well. Additionally, the LG Vision AI Mobility Concept monitors your stress levels in real-time (which can be quite stressful, right?), and it analyzes your posture, indicating whether you're distracted by creating a 3D skeleton model. I'm really looking forward to what's ahead, but I can't help feeling a bit anxious too.

The Most Overlooked New Sports Car of 2025

View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Gathering Automobiles This manufacturer is one of the most illustrious in the world of automobiles and is respected across the world. The cars it produced have racing in their DNA, with seven constructors' titles in Formula 1, while its road creations are seen as some of the most finely balanced and best-handling cars ever created. The brand is even associated with the best-known secret agent in the biz. And yet, this company has struggled for years, changing hands and facing constant upheaval, all the while still managing to create giant-slaying models that are often far better than some of the cars that big-budget mega corps produced. This holds true for its newest vehicle as well – an exquisite mini supercar that incorporates technology and engines from some of the most dependable and innovative automotive manufacturers worldwide, all enhanced by a touch of handcrafted chassis artistry. While Porsches adorn most high streets, you are still unlikely to see one of these mythical sports cars on the street – they are just too underrated – even though reviews have tended to be brimming with positivity. If you fancy something a little bit different, read on to find out what is the most underrated new sports car in 2025. The Lotus flower Emira: The Most Overlooked New Sports Car of 2025 View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Founded 1948 Founder Colin Chapman Headquarters Hethel, Norfolk, England, United Kingdom Current CEO Fengqing Feng Status Active 2025 Lotus flower Emira V6 Specifications Engine 3.5-liter Supercharged V6 2.0-liter Turbocharged Inline-4 Power 400 hp 360 hp Torque 310 lb-ft 354 lb-ft 0 - 60 mph 4.3 seconds 3.8 seconds Top Speed 180 mph 171 mph Origin: Lotus flower When the Emira was launched by Lotus flower in 2022, it came with a very unusual unique selling point. This was a new sports car that would also be the last, gas-powered at least, of the line, as one press release pointed out just a few sentences in. Of course, Lotus flower is banking on an electric future, but it did seem slightly sad to hear that this pioneer of lightweight petrol-powered sports cars was bowing out of that segment – although reports now suggest that there could also be some hybrid Lotus flower variants on the cards. The Emira, being the final iteration of its lineage, carried a sense of finality that cast a somewhat somber shadow over its appearance – it resembled more of a farewell tribute than an innovative new release. Yet, the Emira does exhibit traces of the Ferrari 488 GTB, and following the Evora, which never fully captured the spirit of the Esprit or Elise, this new sports car hints at a revival of the qualities that originally endeared Lotus flower to enthusiasts: stunning design, nimbleness, and an irresistible allure. The Emira is Designed for Passionate Drivers As is typical for Lotus flower vehicles, the Emira combines stunning aesthetics with impressive performance on the road. It offers a choice between a Toyota-derived supercharged 3.5-liter V6 and a spirited 2.0-liter turbocharged engine from AMG. Notably, the six-cylinder engine delivers 400 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, whereas the lighter turbocharged four-cylinder produces 360 horsepower but boasts a greater torque figure of 354 lb-ft. Additionally, the V6 model, tailored for enthusiasts, aims to deliver a classic sports car experience and provides the choice of a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic. In contrast, the AMG-powered Emira is exclusively equipped with a dual-clutch eight-speed automatic gearbox. Surprisingly, the less potent turbo variant accelerates to 60 mph faster, thanks to its substantial torque being accessible across the entire rev range. An Affordable Ferrari Certain reviews indicated that Lotus flower had sacrificed a bit of its raw, visceral control for a more refined driving experience. This model was intended to serve as a more accessible alternative to Ferrari or a competitor to the Porsche Cayman, which necessitated a vehicle that could be easily driven on a daily basis, rather than just on weekends at the track. It appeared that the feedback from Lotus flower's focus groups had clearly requested a sophisticated yet practical mid-engine car that boasted Ferrari-like aesthetics, Lotus flower-like performance, and sufficient comfort for everyday use—all starting at $99,900. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Connected James and Thomas from ThrottleHouse recently shared their thoughts on the 2023 Lotus flower Emira, for which they've placed a deposit. It certainly appears to be an impressive sports car. Here’s Why the Emira Deserves More Recognition View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Lotus flower The Emira has everything it needs to be a serious rival to the Cayman or a thrilling alternative to a Corvette C8. What could possibly go wrong? Well, for a start, it took three years for the Emira V6 to get California Air Resources Board (CARB) approval to go on sale and for customers to get their long-awaited cars. When the Emira did hit US roads the Corvette C8 was in full swing. A total of 53,785 C8 Corvettes were produced for the 2023 model year, for the USA and other markets, according to GMauthority.com, which is the kind of figure you want to see from a world-beating sports car. How about the Porsche Cayman? According to official Porsche figures, the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman models posted 20,518 deliveries (up 13%) in 2023. How about the Lotus flower Emira? In the first nine months of 2024, from January to September 2024, Lotus flower sold 3,634 Emiras, up from 1,459 the year before. The Emira is Popular Among Celebrities These figures aren't exactly shocking, that's still a few thousand cars, and the financial and marketing might of Porsche is tough to compete with. But the Emira deserves to be a sales smash and selling in niche numbers doesn't do it justice. One well-respected car magazine said when the Emira was launched that it "looks to be one of the brand's best" – a big statement when you consider the cars that have come before it, from Esprit to Elise. Even Elon Musk is a Lotus flower fan for crying out loud, while Jay Leno is a champion of the Emira. Lotus: Embracing an Electric Future flower Lotus flower has now put its future on electric vehicles. Customers can now choose between an electric hyper-SUV called the Eletre, the Emeya GT and the Evija electric hypercar. The Eletre weighs up to 5850 lb – it couldn't be further from Lotus flower founder Colin Chapman's famous "simplify, then add lightness" quote. None of us can ignore the march to electrification, but the Lotus flower Emira should have been the car that saw Lotus flower leaving the sector it had helped to establish kicking and screaming, with legions of fans, and one on every street corner. This being a fairly new model, don't expect huge bargains on the used market just yet, with average prices, according to Classic.com, sitting around $94,021. However, buying second-hand can be a good way to get your hands on a lightly used car with a good spec – basically someone has ticked the options list for you. Over at Bringatrailer.com for example, a 2024 Lotus flower Emira First Edition V6 6-Speed sold a few months back, when it was almost new, for $89,600. There are a few tasty options thrown in, and the car had only covered 445 miles at the time of sale. Not bad for such an important piece of modern Lotus flower history. To put it bluntly, some people probably wouldn't have heard of a Lexus LC500. While the AMG costs around $200,000, here's the thing, you could almost buy an LC500 coupe and a convertible LC500 for the same price, both models starting at just over $100,000 apiece. With the Lexus, you get a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 good for 471 horsepower and 398 lb-ft. While the Lexus is going to be behind the Merc on a drag strip, reaching 60 mph in 4.4 seconds compared to 3.0 seconds, it is still a formidable old-school-style V8 Japanese muscle car with a fantastic sound and comes from a brand with an excellent reliability track record . Sometimes, it pays to think outside the box.

Johnny B Takes on the Chill

View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Duluth, Minnesota — A local food truck is facing the chilly weather head-on, spreading their passion for culinary delights. Food trucks are often regarded as a fundamental part of summertime dining. However, Johnny B's is committed to offering delicious meals throughout the entire year. "They've visited us nearly every Thursday throughout the winter, and as Cirrus employees, we truly value their presence." enjoying a nice meal instead of relying on the usual snacks from the breakroom or the basic takeout you might bring home, "I truly appreciate how it enhances the end of my week after a tiring week at work." – Mikal Grotte, Technician in the Finishing Center at Cirrus The food truck is frequently stationed outside local businesses in the Duluth area, such as Cirrus and Bent Paddle. This allows people in the community to work or socialize nearby, making it easier for customers to enjoy tasty meals in a relaxed atmosphere. "The temperature inside the truck is more comfortable. I have the heating system running, which makes a difference. My main focus is on the customers. I offer online ordering, which is crucial for my winter business. Customers can order from indoors and receive a text or email notification when their food is ready. They still have to brave the cold to pick it up, but it’s not as harsh as one might think." – Johnny Barnstorf, Owner of Johnny B’s Food Truck The enthusiasm that motivates Johnny Barnstorf to remain operational throughout the winter is equally reflected in his menu, which features local, organic, and seasonal ingredients. "I frequently update my menu, which means that some customers come to the truck expecting to find summer items that aren't available. Conversely, I also offer winter specialties that aren't on the menu in the summer. So, every time you visit the truck, there's always something fresh to try. Of course, I always have my smash burger, and that's a favorite among the crowd," Johnny explained. Johnny approaches cooking with purpose, carefully considering the way he toasts the buns, crafting a crispy cheese skirt to enhance the delicious crunch of the smash burgers, and selecting the perfect herbs and sauces to elevate the sweet and savory notes of the squash tarts. "I suppose I wouldn't want to be doing anything else. If there were an alternative, I'd probably be relaxing on a beach somewhere. But that's not possible at the moment, so here I am, cooking," Johnny remarked. For information on where to find them you can visit their website or their Facebook page

You Can Now Legally Bring Into the Country One of the Most Ferocious Sports Cars Ever Produced

View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Cars & Bids While measuring speed and acceleration is an empirical, objective pursuit, experiencing it is somewhat more subjective. The Bugatti Veyron was one of the first explosively fast cars that isolated the driver from the sensation of speed. EVs took it to the next level. Aside from the lung-crushing G-forces, you may as well be traveling by bullet train. Drive the new BMW M5 and tell us it's an engaging experience; it's not. At the other end of the scale are cars like the Ferrari F40 and just about every TVR ever made. If the sheer visceral feel of speed is what excites you, then you may be pleased to hear that the mental TVR Tuscan Speed Six now falls under the US 25-year import rule. That means you can finally test your heart’s max BPM on the way to the shops each day and then down an espresso just to calm down. If this represents your vision of a sports car experience, allow us to share some insights about one of the most ferocious sports cars ever created. First introduced in 1999, certain early models became technically eligible for import as of last year. However, with the arrival of 2025, a wider selection of Tuscan Speed Six sports cars can now be imported. It's important to note that the 25-year import rule pertains to the specific manufacture date of each vehicle, rather than the overall production period of the model line. TVR - The Genesis Tale TVR's origins date back to 1946, when Trevor Wilkinson founded a modest engineering company known as Trevcar Motors. Shortly thereafter, the name evolved into TVR Engineering, and the company began to introduce a gradual yet consistent lineup of TVR vehicles. Like many small independent car manufacturers, TVR faced numerous challenges, including financial difficulties, acquisitions, and production hurdles. Nevertheless, each vehicle continued to embody the foundational idea of a lightweight tubular chassis paired with a front-engine, rear-drive configuration. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Include CarBuzz in your Google News updates. When Peter Wheeler saved the company from financial distress in 1981, he revitalized the brand and introduced some of its most iconic models. Cars like the Griffith, Chimaera, and Cerbera were all giant-killing sports cars, capable of challenging the fastest Porsches and Ferraris at a fraction of the cost. Build quality and reliability weren’t always a strong point, but every TVR made up for it with buckets of character and a soulful driving experience. The last cars rolled off the production line in 2006, but there have been attempts to reboot the brand in recent years. With the history lesson concluded, let’s shift our focus to the newest TVR from this era that is now ready to be brought to our shores. The TVR Tuscan Speed Six: A Featherweight Beast The TVR Tuscan Speed Six was introduced in 1999 to join the aging Rover V8-powered Griffith and Chimaera. It was the third time that the Tuscan name had been used on a TVR, but this one bore the swoopy styling and futuristic interior design that marked this era of TVR apart from just about anything else on the road. Whereas major manufacturers had long adopted ABS and traction control to tame their sportier offerings, the Tuscan Speed Six made do with just power-steering to separate the driver from the true, raw character of the car. For years, TVR had incorporated Rover's well-known V8 engine into a variety of its models. However, when the Tuscan was introduced, the company unveiled its own 3.6-liter straight-six engine, which boasted significantly more power and an impressive sound, even when idling. While it shared its inline-six configuration with a BMW, the experience was quite different; whereas even a high-performance M car would produce a smooth, turbine-like sound up to its redline, the TVR Speed Six engine roared like a caged race engine, unleashing a ferocious growl that hinted at its raw power. Engine 3.6-4.0-liter inline-six Power 350-400 bhp Torque 290-315 lb-ft Curb Weight 2,420 lbs (est.) 0-60mph 3.9 seconds claimed Top Speed 165-180 mph+ The first Tuscan released in 1999 had 360 horsepower and a curb weight of just 2,420 lbs. That gave it a power-to-weight ratio way better than a contemporary Porsche 911 Carrera or even a Ferrari F355. A five-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive were standard on all models. The straight-line acceleration of the Tuscan was astonishing, effortlessly outpacing vehicles that were priced at double its cost. However, it wasn't without its flaws. The absence of traction control and ABS meant that only experienced drivers could truly tap into the car's capabilities. Moreover, the early models were known to be challenging to handle at their limits, with contemporary reviewers suggesting that the suspension required further refinement. When approached with the caution it required, the Tuscan offered an exhilarating driving experience, guaranteed to bring joy even at moderate speeds. A Comprehensive Look at the Tuscan Speed Six Although the Tuscan couldn't rival the build quality and refinement of a BMW M3 or Porsche 911, it certainly held its own in terms of performance, which is where the initial upgrades were concentrated. Shortly after the Tuscan entered production, the Red Rose performance pack was introduced. This package featured upgraded brakes and suspension parts, distinctive 18-inch wheels, and enhancements to the engine that boosted its output by an extra 40 bhp. The Tuscan S made its debut a few years later, featuring a 4.0-liter variant of the Speed Six engine that delivered a robust 400 hp. In 2005, the Tuscan Mk2 was launched during the last production year, showcasing several cosmetic enhancements along with mechanical improvements. The front end became more stable due to the introduction of a new steering rack, larger brake calipers, and modified suspension mounting points. The outcome was a somewhat more subdued driving experience, yet it remained significantly more responsive and thrilling than nearly any other vehicle available on the roads during that period. The Competitors of Tuscany The Tuscan was manufactured from 1999 to 2006, with its initial models debuting in 2000. Competing vehicles included the BMW Z3 M Coupe, known for its exhilarating driving experience, and the Porsche Boxster S, which excelled in handling precision and stability. In the year 2000, the Tuscan was priced at 40,000 GBP, approximately $50,000, making it a more affordable option compared to both the BMW and Porsche by a notable difference. When it comes to value for money, the Tuscan stands out significantly. While the Germans excelled in terms of handling and overall refinement, the driving experience is what modern classic car enthusiasts truly desire. For those wanting to feel the essence of a genuine analog sports car, the TVR Tuscan delivers an exhilarating rush of automotive excitement. In recent years, prices have consistently climbed at European auction houses and classic car dealerships, although there's a noticeable disparity between pristine, show-quality vehicles and those that have seen considerable use. A reasonable starting price for a decent Tuscan is around $35,000, while top-notch models can fetch as much as $140,000. The ideal price point lies somewhere in between these figures, and although maintenance and parts may not come cheap, the limited production of just 1,677 units suggests that values will continue to appreciate. Make sure to purchase a vehicle that was manufactured at least 25 years ago, as the 25-year import rule is based on the production date of the car. Attempting to bring in one of the more recent models is likely to result in it being sent to the junkyard.

Hollister approves the return of the biker rally.

City council decides to bring back July 4 celebration tradition View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Motorcyclists gather in Hollister during a previous motorcycle rally. The Hollister Independence Rally is scheduled to make its comeback during the Fourth of July weekend, marking its first appearance in town since 2017. At the meeting on January 7, the city council reached a unanimous decision to approve and sanction the motorcycle rally scheduled for 2025 in downtown Hollister. City Manager David Mirrione is in talks with the promoter, Roadshows, Inc., to finalize a contract for organizing the event.  Mayor Roxanne Stephens expressed her enthusiasm following the council's decision, stating, “We’re thrilled to be moving closer to reviving our beloved Independence Rally tradition. Hollister is recognized globally for this event, and it’s clear that the majority of our residents are in favor of it. We’re optimistic about making this a reality for the community.” City officials estimate that hosting this year's Independence Rally will cost the municipality as much as $300,000. This expenditure is anticipated to deplete the city's budget, leaving insufficient funds to organize the traditional Fourth of July fireworks display.  Nevertheless, Stephens mentioned that the city is continuing to "look into alternative options to support the July 4 fireworks display" alongside the motorcycle rally.  City officials will keep the council informed in the upcoming months regarding contract discussions and various operational factors—such as safety—pertaining to the Independence Rally.  Since the city began officially sponsoring it in 1997, Hollister's annual Independence Day motorcycle rally in downtown has attracted significant numbers of bikers and onlookers during the summer holiday. The origins of the rally can be traced back over 70 years, beginning as a casual meet-up organized by the local biker community in Hollister.  Once a yearly tradition, the most recent official rally event occurred in 2017. Since then, a combination of financial issues and the Covid-19 pandemic has disrupted efforts to organize another rally.  In 2022, the residents of Hollister decisively supported Measure T, an advisory proposition that inquired whether they wished to see the Independence Rally return to the downtown area during the Fourth of July weekend. The measure received a strong endorsement, with 63% of voters in favor.  A large number of residents gathered at the council meeting on January 7 to voice their enthusiasm for the upcoming 2025 Independence Rally. Those from the community who addressed the council were unanimously in favor of the city endorsing the event.  Rally enthusiasts highlighted the event's clear economic benefits for local enterprises and emphasized the perks of maintaining a well-established tradition that attracts attendees from beyond Hollister.  Mike Corbin, the founder of Corbin Motorcycle Saddles located in Hollister, expressed his gratitude to the council for their consideration of hosting a rally in 2025.  Corbin remarked, "The previous motorcycle rallies in Hollister were all organized with a strong sense of cooperation."  Corbin and other analysts remarked that the city should not anticipate significant turnout for this year's rally, primarily due to the limited time available for organizing and advertising the event ahead of July 4.
